Standard with Charge Max and Charge Pro

V2G-ready: prepared for bidirectional charging

Charge Max and Charge Pro are both V2G-ready. Their hardware is prepared to supply power from your car's battery. This preparation is included as standard. For a working application, the vehicle, software, energy service and installation must also be suitable.

An electric car has a large battery. With bidirectional charging, energy can flow in two directions: into the car for driving, and out of the car for another application. That offers possibilities for later. We already take this into account when choosing your charging station.

We often recommend Charge Max for home use; Charge Pro offers greater scalability for larger or shared charging locations. You can choose both. Both have preparation for bidirectional charging in the device. Below you can read what that feature means and what is needed to actually use it.

What do V2G and V2H mean?

With V2G, Vehicle-to-Grid, the car returns energy to the electricity grid. A suitable energy service can tailor that energy flow to the demand from the grid and the agreements in your contract.

With V2H, Vehicle-to-Home, energy from the car is used for your home. Using power while the grid is available and supplying emergency power during a breakdown each require appropriate technical implementation. We therefore first discuss what you want to use the energy for.

The hardware is prepared for both models.

Easee confirms that Charge Max and Charge Pro already include the hardware for bidirectional power flows. The communication between the car and the charging station is also prepared for these applications. V2G-ready is therefore a standard feature of both models in our range.

You do not need to select a separate preparation in the simulator for this. You can choose Max or Pro there yourself, regardless of the first model recommendation. Charge Max suits home charging and the reimbursement of your company car. Charge Pro offers the scalability for a larger or shared location. Both also have a certified MID meter.

The car and energy service must cooperate.

For bidirectional charging vian Easee, the vehicle must support bidirectional AC charging. A car that only supports bidirectional DC charging is not automatically suitable for this. A socket on the car for individual devices is also not the same as supplying electricity via your charging station.

In addition, the software and the energy service involved must work together. Together with your contract, this service determines how electricity is controlled and, if necessary, reimbursed. Therefore, we do not promise a fixed activation date or revenue for an application that is not yet available for your combination.

  • The exact vehicle design and software support bidirectional AC charging.
  • The car and charging station communicate according to the required protocols.
  • The energy service offers an appropriate and available feed-in function.
  • The grid operator and applicable rules allow this application.

We check the entire installation.

Supplying electricity changes the energy flows in your home. The electrical installation, protection, measurement and possible registration must be suitable for this. We assess these parts together with the chosen car and service.

If you also want power during a mains failure, we will discuss that separately. A V2G-ready charging station alone does not automatically power your home in the event of a power outage. Emergency power requires, among other things, a safe separation from the public grid and a switchover designed for this purpose.

How does ISO 15118 fit into this?

ISO 15118 describes the digital communication between the car and the charging point. This communication supports applications such as automatic recognition of the vehicle and bidirectional energy flows. Supporting that communication does not automatically make an application such as bidirectional charging ready for use.

The European rules prescribe that private charging points in charging mode 3 or 4 that are newly installed or extensively renovated from 1 January 2027 at least comply with EN ISO 15118-20:2022. A fixed Type 2 home charger usually operates in 3 mode. We check the current implementation, software and compliance documents for your project.

Short answer

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose V2G-ready as an additional option?

No. Charge Max and Charge Pro have the hardware for bidirectional charging as standard. That is why you do not have to select that preparation separately in our simulator. The simulator provides a model recommendation, but you can choose Max or Pro yourself. We check your choice based on your charging location, the number of charging points and the desired management.

Can I immediately supply electricity with a V2G-ready charging station?

This does not automatically follow from the preparation of the charger. Your car must also support bidirectional AC charging. In addition, suitable software, a working energy service and an appropriate electrical installation are required. We check the concrete possibilities before we propose a feed-in function.

Does bidirectional charging work with every electric car?

No. For return via an AC charging point such as Easee, the vehicle must support bidirectional AC charging and communicate correctly with the charging station. Support for bidirectional DC charging or a socket on the car does not prove this. We check the exact version and software of your car.

Do I also have emergency power for my home with V2G-ready?

No, V2G-ready in itself is not an emergency power supply. Providing power to your home during a breakdown requires a complete, designed solution with safe separation from the grid and the correct switching. We look separately at which devices you want to continue using and what installation is required for this.
