Emergency power starts with the right connection

Does my home battery also work during a power outage?

Some home batteries can provide emergency power, but the stored energy does not reach your regular sockets by itself. Both the SolarFlow 2400 AC+ and the 4000 Mix have a separate off-grid port with its own power limits.

A battery can store electricity during the day and supply it to the home in the evening, while it does not supply normal home circuits in the event of a power failure. Daily self-consumption and emergency power require different operation. That distinction must be clear before you choose an installation.

We offer Zendure SolarFlow custom setups. The presence of an emergency power port does not mean automatic power supply to your entire home. We agree on which devices you want to operate, through which connection and for approximately how long the available reserve will be sufficient.

An emergency power socket is different from a home circuit.

During normal operation, the battery inverter is connected to the public grid. If the grid fails, the installation must prevent unwanted power to the grid. Meanwhile, a separate off-grid output can supply power to a connected device. This output does not automatically put all other sockets under voltage.

What the type of connection means during a power outage
ExecutionWhat can continue to work?
Ordinary grid-connected batteryNo automatic power supply to the permanent home circuits.
Separate off-grid or EPS portSuitable devices connected to that output and for which the function is set.
Separately designed emergency power circuitsOnly the agreed circuits, within the limits of the chosen system.

What can the SolarFlow 2400 AC+ deliver?

Zendure states for battery operation at the off-grid port 2.400 W continuously. According to the manufacturer, the short-lived peak of 3.600 W lasts a maximum of 200 milliseconds. That is not extra continuous power to use multiple heavy equipment.

The manual also mentions 3.200 W for a connected load when the mains is present: the extra part then comes from the home mains. In the event of a breakdown, this supplement is lost. You must therefore use the battery company's boundary for your emergency power planning.

The separate port is disabled by default and must be configured in advance according to the manual. A refrigerator, internet device or other selected load must actually be connected to the correct output. The device in a regular socket elsewhere in the house does not receive emergency power due to this setting.

What changes with the 4000 Mix AC+ and Pro?

Both 4000 Mix models have approximately 8 kWh nominal storage and a separate off-grid port with up to 3.680 VA. That port has a different limit than the own AC inverter power of 4 kW in grid operation. The number 4 kW does not mean that every connected emergency power device can consume that power via the separate socket.

Zendure mentions a short-lived peak of 7,2 kW for 200 milliseconds for the Mix. This is intended for short start-up requests and is not continuously available power. We assess which appliances continue to work reliably based on their normal consumption and start-up behavior.

The Mix can also use solar energy during a breakdown in a suitable configuration via its intended inputs. To do this, we check the PV inverter or PV strings, connection and settings. Simply installing an extra Mix device does not transform the normal home installation into an emergency power grid.

Do you want to use your battery as a complete backup for your home? We can provide the Zendure PowerHub 1P and 3P for this. Together with a suitable SolarFlow 4000 Mix setup and a professionally designed switch, the battery can continue to power the home circuits in the event of a power outage.

The PowerHub 1P is intended for a single-phase home and requires at least one compatible Mix device for backup. Full three-phase backup with the PowerHub 3P requires at least one Mix device per phase, three in total. We look at your grid type, consumers and desired reserve in advance. The available power per phase and the remaining battery capacity determine what can work simultaneously and for how long.

Look at the required power and available energy at the same time.

A device can use little energy over an entire day and still require a lot of power for a short period of time. For example, a refrigerator compressor may require more power when starting than during normal operation. Therefore, check the type plate and, where necessary, take a measurement. Also add up the appliances that have to work at the same time.

The operating time depends on the energy actually available at the start of the breakdown. A large battery that is almost empty is less helpful than a smaller one with sufficient reserve. Calculate usable energy after the chosen reserve, losses and the system's own consumption.

The examples below take 2 kWh of energy that can actually be supplied to the appliances. The formula is available energy in kWh divided by average consumption in kW. These are calculation examples with a constant load, no promised autonomy times for a product.

Simplified operating time at 2 kWh of actual deliverable energy
Assumed average consumptionCalculationTheoretical duration
100 W2 kWh ÷ 0,1 kW20 hours
500 W2 kWh ÷ 0,5 kW4 hours
2.000 W2 kWh ÷ 2 kW1 hours

Do not automatically count on new solar power during the breakdown.

A normal grid-connected solar panel installation does not automatically form an independent electricity grid in the event of a grid failure. This also applies when there is an AC-connected home battery next to it. An existing roof installation, battery and emergency power port must together have a suitable design to continue to work together during the breakdown.

The ability to connect an external inverter to a port does not in itself prove that that combination can also supply energy without a public grid. We check whether your specific inverter is supported in that operating state. For the standard grid-connected setup, we base the desired usage time on pre-stored energy.

Quick switching also requires an appropriate load.

Zendure mentions a switchover within 15 milliseconds for the separate EPS port of the 2400 AC+; for the Mix port the manufacturer calls 10 milliseconds. These are product specifications for the connected off-grid load. They do not guarantee that every device, computer or internet connection will continue to work without interruption.

If you want to keep a home office operational, we will look at the computer, screen, router and other necessary devices together. In addition, powering the router will not restore a connection if your internet provider's equipment also fails. For applications where no interruption is acceptable, we will discuss whether separate advice on a suitable UPS or specific uninterruptible power supply is required.

Make a specific appointment before the breakdown.

First choose a few important devices and a feasible operating time. A wish such as 'everything must continue to work' says too little about power, phases and reserve. An electric kettle, hob, heat pump or charging station can quickly burden a limited emergency power supply.

If you want to supply fixed home circuits, suitable equipment, safe switching, earthing and protection are required. The emergency power side must be able to be separated from the public grid according to the chosen design. This requires a technical assessment; just a setting in the app is not enough.

  1. Make a note of which devices are important and what they ask at the same time and when starting.
  2. We confirm which emergency power output and configuration are suitable for this.
  3. We determine the available reserve and discuss the estimated useful life.
  4. With an agreed emergency power setup, we test in a controlled manner whether the selected devices continue to work.

Short answer

Frequently asked questions

Will my entire home continue to work with a SolarFlow 2400 AC+ or 4000 Mix?

The regular grid-connected installation does not do this automatically. We can provide a full custom home backup for the SolarFlow 4000 Mix AC+ and Pro with the Zendure PowerHub 1P or 3P. The 1P is for a single-phase connection; full three-phase backup with the 3P requires at least one compatible Mix device per phase. We tailor power, reserve and safe switching to your home. This PowerHub construction is not included as standard in the simulator setup. Contact us to discuss your emergency power needs.

Do my solar panels continue to charge the battery during a power outage?

Do not assume this for a normal grid-connected installation. The existing solar panels and their inverter do not automatically form a functioning island grid. Whether production is possible during the breakdown depends on a suitable and controlled design. First calculate the emergency power duration based on the energy that is already stored.

Will I get more backup power with additional battery modules?

Additional storage can extend the operating time, but does not automatically increase the power of the emergency power output. The inverter, port and connected devices continue to determine what can work simultaneously. Three separate battery arrangements do not automatically form one three-phase emergency power supply.

Can you check in advance what continues to work?

Yes. We discuss which appliances you want to power and look at their power, connections and desired operating time. If emergency power is part of your chosen setup, we will agree on the configuration and a controlled practical test. A function in the app alone does not prove that your connected device will continue to work in the event of a breakdown.
